As mentioned previously, the biscuits are drop style which means they done have so much height as cut biscuits so they're difficult to slice (to put in your filling). The red eye gravy is served on the side fortunately. My husband's food looked amazing and like a substantial lunch and too much food for a breakfast. It had the perfect balance of mint, sweetness and heat from the jalapeno. I think the restaurant calls these something else) are housemade and the one I chose was most flavorful. All the chutneys (this is what I call them. I took a small paper tub (1" diameter) of the mint jalapeno chutney. While waiting for our food, I had noticed a condiments table so I went to investigate. If you like Biscuit Heads biscuits a lot and want to recreate the taste, they sell Mason jars of the biscuit mix at the register. I make biscuits from scratch but I have to make cut biscuits. However, drop biscuits make complete sense because there's less wasted dough. If you go to a chain biscuit restaurant in the South, you'll get a cut biscuit. For those who are biscuit afficiandos or foodies, the biscuits here are drop biscuits, not cut biscuits. The restaurant was still very busy and we found a table at the front of the restaurant after searching the back, the patio (at the back where you can enter from the parking lot). We were given a number and seated ourselves. I guess this is not the dish to order if you have high blood pressure. Nonetheless, we appreciate the warning that the ham is extra salty (which is normal). The lady at the register took the trouble to explain country ham to my husband who is not from the South but we live in Durham, NC so we're familiar with country ham and eat it ourselves. My husband ordered the country ham biscuit which was country ham, fried green tomato, cheese eggs, and red eye gravy. This lady on the register had to listen to my order twice to know how to ring up the following: one biscuit with the roasted tomato gravy plus fried chicken and a side of kale salad. I have an egg allergy so I created a wholly a la carte meal because I wanted to try one of the many gravies made by the restaurant. breakfast food, most of the house created biscuit meals included an egg. We had ample time to peruse the menu and since this is a biscuit based restaurant, i.e. It was after 1pm by the time we joined the line and despite the time, the restaurant was full and when we got to the head of the line, the lady on the register said we'd have to wait to order because there were no free tables for us to sit after our order was taken. I did that while my spouse stood in line. Just get a coupon as soon as you enter the restaraurant, complete it and pop it in the slot for the number of the space your vehicle is parked in. Parking is in city lot behind the restaurant. It was a reasonable 5-10 minutes (which was in fact accurate). I called ahead from Sunny Point Cafe to get an estimate on the wait time for a table. I'm sure that some of the dishes must be great, but I was looking forward to a true southern biscuits and gravy breakfast and my experience would not bring me back.My spouse and I dined here in July 2015 after our first choice, Sunny Point Cafe, had an hour long wait for a table and I'm so glad we ended up at Biscuit Head in the West Village neighborhood in northern Asheville. Not to mention, a restaurant that calls itself Biscuit Head should know that southern biscuits ordered with gravy should be covered in gravy and not brought to you in a tiny side dish. Food comes in dog dishes (not a problem for me if the food is good), but the whole experience was lacking. Once you order, it's a race to get a table. Dining was uncomfortable to say the least. It wasn't even enough to cover part of the biscuit. What I recieved for $2 was a little cup of orange colored, sausage flavored (kind of) pudding. I'm southern girl and when you order biscuits and pork sausage gravy, you expect.well GRAVY. The cat's head biscuits are also very good. The marmalades rock (especially the cherry). and people love it, I was very excited about eating here. Since this is a Southern restaurant that specializes in biscuits. I am from the south and I am very discerning about my biscuits and gravy. I couldn't wait to have breakfast here based on reviews and recommendations of people who had been here.
